    Technik: Im Sommer 1978 wurde der Golf I leicht überarbeitet. Erkennbar sind die Fahrzeuge an energieabsorbierenden Kunststoff-Stoßfängern. Weiterhin gab es damals ein sogenanntes „Geräuschpaket“ für alle Modelle, das diverse Maßnahmen zur Verringerung der Abroll- und Triebwerksgeräusche beinhaltete. Zudem wurde der Rostschutz erheblich verbessert, da frühe Golf-Modelle infolge des damals verwendeten minderwertigen Recycling-Stahlblechs und der vom VW-Vorstand am 19. Februar 1974 getroffenen Entscheidung, keine Hohlraumkonservierung einzusetzen, schnell korrodierten. Das war bedingt durch einen relativ hohen Kupferanteil im Metall, der zu interkristalliner Korrosion führte. Mitte der 1970er-Jahre herrschte aufgrund weltweiter Überkapazitäten ein ruinöser Wettbewerb auf dem Stahlmarkt und führte zur Stahlkrise. Mitunter wurde angelieferter Stahlschrott nicht mehr fraktioniert: Eingeschmolzene Kabelbäume von Fahrzeugwracks führten dann zu einem hohen Kupferanteil im produzierten Stahl. Aber auch Anteile von Nickel, Aluminium und Chrom verunreinigten den Stahl. Dieser war in der Konsequenz dann sehr korrosionsanfällig. LG Tom
